    Trash Reminder

    Please place all trash into any of the 3 garbage cans that are available. If you see trash, please pick up and throw it away. Don't just walk by it. Please help us keep the area clean. Thank you.

    Wed, August 1st Practice

    Football players need to wear spirit pack t-shirt, shorts, helmet, and cleats for practice on Wednesday, August 1st.

    First Day of Practice, July 30th

    Football players need to come in OCPW t-shirt, OCPW shorts, and cleats ONLY for the first day of practice.
    Coaches will notify players DAILY as to what needs to be worn or what equipment needs to be brought to each practice until the players are in full gear.
    Cheerleaders need to come in t-shirt, shorts, and athletic shoes for the first day of practice.

    MAKE-UP EQUIPMENT PICKUP

    The make-up equipment/uniform pickup date will be Sunday, August 5th, from 1-3 PM (see calendar).

    The same rule applies for this pick-up: Everything must be submitted in order to pick-up uniforms/equipment (items can be brought to the pick-up).

    For those that have items to complete registration in order for your child to be able to practice Monday, please come between 5:30-5:50 PM. Spirit packs will be given and your child will be allowed to practice if registration is complete.

    Plan on staying AFTER practice on Monday (July 30th) or Tuesday (July 31st) for your child to be fitted with his helmet (it must be adjusted to fit each child individually)--this will be done after the post-practice coaches meeting.

    The remaining equipment/uniforms can be picked up on the make-up date (see above).

    LAST EQUIPMENT HANDOUT DATE

    JULY 29TH (SUNDAY) IS THE LAST DAY
    FOR FOOTBALL EQUIPMENT/UNIFORM HANDOUT
    • Registration must be complete in order to pick up football equipment/uniform. NO EXCEPTIONS. Bring all your remaining items to complete registration and pick-up equipment. YOUR CHILD MUST BE PRESENT TO PICK UP EQUIPMENT (your child's helmet must be individually fitted).
    • See "Calendar" for time and location.
    • If registration items cannot be brought until the first day of practice (July 30th), please bring the items from 5:30-5:50 PM so that registration can be completed. IF registration in completed, only spirit packs will then be handed out and your child will be allowed to practice. You can remain after practice for your child to be fitted with his helmet (WILL BE AFTER THE POST-PRACTICE COACHES MEETING SO YOU MUST BE PATIENT).
    • Remainder of equipment/uniforms can be picked up on the make-up date, August 5th.
    • Make-up equipment pickup will be on August 5th (see calendar for location and time).

    OCPW PARENT MEETING

    There will be a parent meeting on the first day of practice
    (July 30th @ 6pm).
    PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO BE THERE.

    We will go over expectations of players and parents and then what you should expect from OCPW. Rules (about attendance, behavior, practices, games, etc...) will be reviewed. Upcoming events (everything on the calendar) will be reviewed in detail. The budget, raffle, sponsorship, board, etc...

    Cheerleader parents will then have a short meeting following the general parent meeting.

    1ST DAY OF PRACTICE

    The first day of football and cheerleading practice is
    JULY 30TH!
    Your child must be completely registered (all forms and fees submitted) BEFORE (s)he will be permitted to start practice. NO EXCEPTIONS.
    Practices will be at Cane Creek Baptist from 6-8 PM until school starts. After school starts, the practice times will be 5:45-7:45 PM.
    All cheerleaders and football players are required to complete 20 hours of conditioning.
    Please make sure that you wear the spirit pack t-shirt, spirit pack shorts, and cleats.

    Make sure that your player is staying well-hydrated!!
    If they're not already, get them to start drinking water throughout the day NOW!!

    EQUIPMENT HAND-OUT

    ALL FORMS AND FEES MUST BE SUBMITTED BEFORE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO PICK UP EQUIPMENT AND UNIFORMS. NO EXCEPTIONS.

    Here is the check off list of what we should have for your child:
    • Registration fee
    • Spirit Pack fee
    • PW 2007 Participant Contract and Parental Consent Form (pg 1 of 2)
    • PW 2007 Parental/Guardian Permission and Waiver Form (pg 2 of 2)--this must have the signature of the participant
    • PW 2007 Physical Fitness & Medical History Form (2 pgs)--2nd pg must be filled out by MD and dated after Jan 1, 2007 (NO SUBSTITUTE FORMS WILL BE ACCEPTED)
    • OCPW Payment and Refund Policy
    • OCPW Email & Photo Permission Form
    • OCPW Medical Release and Waiver of Liability Form
    • 3 copies of original birth certificate
    • Verification of original birth certificate (must see original birth certificate--NO EXCEPTIONS)
    • 2 copies of final 2006-2007 report card (for kindergarteners entering 2007-2008 school year, must have 2 copies of letter from preschool, daycare, or parents stating that child is ready to participate in organized sports)
    If you have any questions about what may still be missing, contact us immediately.

    Equipment & uniform handout will be on July 27-30 (see calendar for times and location).
    If you cannot make one of these times, you will have to make an arrangement to pick up equipment and uniforms.

    Mail-In Registrations

    Football registrations are still being accepted (through the mail only).

    *Cheerleading registration is closed.*

    HYDRATION

    Staying well hydrated will be an important factor for the upcoming season if your child has not already been doing so this summer. Please have your child start drinking water on a regular basis throughout the day to prevent dehydration especially once practices start on July 30th. A hydration letter for practices will be sent to all families prior to July 30th.

    It will be hot and humid and will take the players time to adjust to exerting themselves in the element of no A/C or pools. The coaches will ensure that frequent water breaks are taken but please prevent your player from being underhydrated before practice starts. It's hard to get them well-hydrated if they were fluid depleted at the start.

    Equipment Pick-up Dates

    Football/cheer equipment, uniforms (shell may be given out at a later date), and spirit pack can be picked up on one of these dates (see calendar for location):
    July 27th, 6-8 pm
    July 28th, 10 am-2 pm
    July 29th, 1-3 pm

    NOTE: ALL FORMS, COPIES, AND MONIES MUST BE SUBMITTED IN ORDER TO PICK UP ITEMS AND BE ALLOWED TO BEGIN PRACTICE. NO EXCEPTIONS

    Picture Day

    Mark your calendar for OCPW picture day: August 12th @ 4pm (meeting at 3:45pm). Organizational, team, and individual photos will be taken at Kenan Stadium and start promptly at 4pm (Do not be late; group pictures will not be retaken for late players). Pre-orders will be required and taken up at time of pictures (order forms will be handed out at equipment handout). No make-ups available.

    Grant Proposal Writer(s) Needed

    If anyone has experience with writing grant proposals or wants to help with writing grant proposals, please contact us. OCPW would like to have someone volunteer to be in charge of all OCPW grants.

    For 2007-2008 Kindergarten Registrants

    For those cheerleaders or football players entering Kindergarten for the 2007-2008 school year, 2 copies of a letter of intent must be submitted in lieu of report cards. The letter must be written by the preschool, daycare, or parent stating that the child is ready to become part of organizational sports. This is Pop Warner mandated rule. Please contact us if you have any questions.

    Mouthguards

    Each football player will be issued a mouthguard with equipment handout. However, if you are planning to buy your player a mouthguard before and/or during the season, the mouthguards CANNOT have any white or clear in them. Players are not allowed to play with mouthguards with ANY white or clear; the referees will have your player leave the playing field if they catch them with one. The rule was placed by the NC high school officials for safety reasons. There are no if, ands, or buts so if in doubt, don't buy it.
